2007-11-18 METAL HEART MAGAZINE

Q: Have you guys ever toured the U.S. before?
A: No never, but we will some day. We know there is a lot of screaming fans out there and for them we are willing to sacrifice everything in our lives!
Q: What bands inspire you guys?
A: A lot of bands. To mention a few: Bauhaus, Katatonia, Seigmen, Tool, Porcupine Tree and so on. Quite hard music witch may surprise fans of Mandylon, but this is not the only source of inspiration. Life it self is a much greater inspiration!
Q: When and how did you all meet each other and configure the band?
A: That is a very long, hard and brutal story. To form what now is Mandylon there was much tears and sorrow. But finally we’re satisfied in our hearts and minds.
Q: What inspired you guys to make the band name MANDYLON?
A: Well, Mandylon is an old Norwegian river where we find inspiration. And it dos sounds pretty cool – won’t you agree?
Q: Any idols you guys have?
A: Idols in our opinion are the devoted Mandylon lovers out there. To hear their stories, about their lives and the effect our music have on then is… it’s dramatic and in the same time beautiful.
Q: How do the fans in Sweden differ from those in the U.S./other countries?
The Swedish girls will always be Swedish girls.
Q: Where do you guys see yourselves in about 2 years from now? What are your goals for the band?
A: I hope we still are evolving as a band. To stagnate is our worst enemy. Hopefully our shows will be able to see outside northern Europe as well. We want to unite the world with our music. Nothing more - nothing less.
Q: Have you guys ever came upon major struggles during your career of being a band?
A: No major struggles what so ever – yet. And we hope that the Hetfield/Ulrich syndrome will shine with it absence.
Q: Tell readers what makes you guys such a great band and what style of music you guys fall under and what they can expect to hear from MANDYLON.
A: That’s about three questions in one god damn! We are a great (live) band because we are totally committed in it. Once you’ve been on a Mandylon show, nothing will ever surprise you again. The dynamics in our songs is well caught by us as a live act.
To categorize Mandylon would be up to the readers to do, but the rock vein is running in all four of us! Haha.
Q: Tell us about your upcoming debut album and what people can expect to hear on it.
A: Well - sadness, pain and a lot of Swedish love caught on tape by mastermind Jens Bogren (Katatonia, Opeth, Symphony X etc.). The progress of finishing this album has been tuff. Personal let downs together with situations in the studio is not a good mixture. But we’re all very satisfying by the result.
Q: Who writes the lyrics for your songs and what is so meaningful about them? (inspiring to you)
A: Sven write the lyrics from his broken heart and he mean that "sometimes it’s so hard I want to kill myself. But I think if I just make one more song maybe someone will love me. "
Q: Tell us about some of your favorite past times/memories playing at clubs, etc.
A: There is so much happening around a Mandylon show so nothing will stand out any longer.
But one of our strongest memories and also our dearest is when this women showed up after a gig, letting us know that hear 17 year old daughters last wish (she committed suicide a week earlier) was to see us perform that night. She (the mother) went to see our performance although she was not a fan, and not in the mental health to leave home for a rock show!
Q: Where can fans (new and old) find out more from you guys?
A: Here is a bunch of official sites:
http://www.mandylon.com
http://www.buddyz.se/mandylon
http://www.myspace.com/mandylonband
http://www.allears.se/band/mandylon
http://www.trig.com/mandylon
Q: Provide a little information on each BAND MEMBER. (some past/present info)
Sven Holger “Uppen” Rosenvinge:
Paint my star
like the other
but draw my heart
in Technicolor
Emil Eriksson: Music is my biggest passion, although I am a slave for the establishment. The internet is taken too much time and separates me from my precious guitar.
Mattias “Hallan” Westlund: I’ve been doing this for a lifetime now, and so the saga continues. Music, love and art make my heart tick.
Nicklas Hjertton: Music has been and will be my biggest inspiration of life. Without music life wouldn’t exist. There is so much good music unknown for most of the people, and we hope we can spread some good music, instead of all the crap-music coming through the radio/TV everyday.
Q: What did you think about this interview? = )
A: Love the questions – hope you find the answers enjoyable..
With a great deal of love: MANDYLON
